The Board will hear a request from Marin County Parks to authorize the Board President to execute a new Measure A-funded Farmland Preservation Matching Grant Program grant agreement with the Marin Agricultural Land Trust (MALT) in the amount of $412,000 for the acquisition of an agricultural conservation agreement. The Murphy Family's Fallon Ranch, located about four miles east of Tomales and 12 miles east of Petaluma, is comprised of three assessor parcels totaling 186 acres used for commercial agriculture. The property is one of very few in Marin County suitable for row crop agriculture. Marin County Parks received an application requesting $412,000 in Farmland Preservation Program funds on behalf of MALT to acquire the property (MALT has secured $413,000 from other sources as well). Permanently preserving the Murphy ranch for agricultural uses will help maintain the critical mass of farms necessary to keep farming and ranching a viable component of the county's economy. Staff recommends the Board to authorize execution of the agreement and authorize the corresponding budget transfer.
The Board approved the acquisition.
