Speed Limits on Mill Valley-Sausalito Multiuse Pathway

Board of Supervisors

Meeting Date: 1/13/2015

The Board will hear a first reading of an ordinance amending Title 10 of the Marin County Code pertaining to speed limits on the Mill Valley-Sausalito Multiuse Pathway. With increased use of the 3.1-mile pathway have come increased conflicts between the mix of path users -- pedestrians, bicyclists and dog walkers. A collaborative effort with the public and other stakeholder agencies resulted in a recommendation for traffic calming and speed reduction measures that include a 10 mph speed limit on a 1,800-foot section of the path south of Sycamore Avenue. Staff recommends the scheduling of a merit hearing for 10:30 a.m. January 27.

After hearing from Assistant Parks Director Ron Miska and Public Works engineer Bob Goralka, the Board requested some changes and asked for the item to be brought back at a future meeting for another first reading.
