The Board will conduct an informational workshop on potential regulation of medical marijuana businesses/dispensaries within the unincorporated areas of Marin County. Since 1996, seriously ill Californians have had the right to obtain and use marijuana for medical purposes if approved by a physician. A Board subcommittee of Supervisor Rice and former Supervisor Adams originally made recommendations on the potential regulations on medical marijuana dispensaries, which are illegal in Marin County; Supervisors Arnold and Connolly now serve as the Board subcommittee. Staff has researched regulatory models and the subcommittee interviewed potential medical marijuana providers. The current draft ordinance includes a limitation of one dispensary license in each of three designated zones (north, south, central/west) in Marin. Although the Board will not vote on the matter at this meeting, staff recommends that the Board provide direction to the subcommittee and staff.
The Board conducted the workshop, heard from more than 40 speakers during open time and discussed revisions to the draft ordinance with staff. See the news release about the medical marijuana ordinance workshop.
