The Board will hear a request from the Department of Agriculture/Weights and Measures to adopt a resolution commending organic farmers for their innovation and economic contributions to Marin County and celebrating the Marin Organic Certified Agriculture program. Agriculture is recognized as one of five targeted industries by the County's Economic Commission for the benefits derived from this valuable business sector. Organic certification has contributed to the long-term economic viability and the protection of natural resources in Marin. The Marin Organic Certified Agriculture program certifies 53 operations for crops, livestock and processed products, representing more than 36,000 certified organic acres with a gross value of approximately $39 million.
