Update of Sea Level Rise Adaptation Program

Board of Supervisors

Meeting Date: 2/27/2018

Preview

No earlier than 1:30 p.m., the Board will conduct a workshop and hear an update on the Collaboration Sea Level Marin Adaptation Response Team (“C-SMART”) Phase I Completion and commencement of Phase II. Climate experts estimate that sea levels could rise by up to 70 inches by 2100, and the frequency and intensity of storms is anticipated to increase. The County of Marin, acting upon a 2008 Governor's Executive Order, is building resiliency to climate change by taking a thoughtful and sensible approach to adaptation.

Staff recommends that the Board take the following actions:

  • Accept the Marin Ocean Coast Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessment and Marin Ocean Coast Sea Level Rise Adaptation Report
  • Receive an overview on C-SMART Phase II work program, and
  • Consider adopting a resolution requesting grant funding from the Ocean Protection Council for a feasibility study for a nature-based green infrastructure project at Stinson Beach.

Review

The Board conducted the workshop, heard the update on C-SMART efforts, and accepted the vulnerability assessment. It also adopted a resolution requesting grant funding from the Ocean Protection Council for a feasibility study for a nature-based green infrastructure project at Stinson Beach.
