Wildfire Management Assistance for National Parks Service

Board of Supervisors

Meeting Date: 7/10/2018

The Board will hear a request from the Marin County Fire Department to authorize Fire Chief Jason Weber to enter into a cooperative agreement with the National Park Service (NPS) to provide mutual assistance for the wildfire management activities for the period of May 1, 2018 to May 1, 2023, and approve related budget adjustments. The area affected is the Golden Gate National Recreation Area's Marin land, the Muir Woods National Monument, and the Point Reyes National Seashore. The NPS' ability to protect life and property from fire has been reduced, and this agreement would maximize firefighting resources and funds for that purpose. If approved, County expenditures would increase by $360,941, full offset by funds from the new cooperative agreement.

The Board authorized the cooperative agreement.
