The Board will hear an informational report regarding consideration of a proposal to create a West Marin Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) Area, and possible ballot measure for the November 6, 2018, election. The creation of a tax area would provide the ability to increase the TOT rate to 15 percent from the current rate of 10 percent for the privilege of occupancy in any hotel or short-term rental. Additional funds would be dedicated to support services within the TOT area, including the impacts of tourism, the need for community housing, and emergency services. The ballot measure would require a two-thirds majority to pass.
