Laura's Law Pilot Program

Board of Supervisors

Meeting Date: 9/18/2018

Shortly after convening at 9 a.m., the Board will receive an update from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) regarding the two-year AB 1421 (Laura’s Law) pilot program. The Assisted Outpatient Treatment Demonstration Project Act of 2002 resulted in a process to allow court-ordered outpatient mental health treatment based on specific eligibility criteria. AB 1421 provides for services to individuals with serious and persistent mental illness who are 18 or older and can benefit from treatment but who decline voluntary participation. In spring 2017, Marin HHS started planning an AB 1421 pilot program, and the County has now hired staff, visited municipalities that have implemented AB 1421 and launched its own program September 4.

The Board received the update.
