2. Adaptation to Sea Level Rise

Preview

The Board will hear an update from Department of Public Works on the Marin Bay Waterfront Adaptation and Vulnerability Evaluation (BayWAVE) Shoreline Sea Level Rise Program. Marin is vulnerable to sea level rise on both its Pacific and bay coastlines. Sea level rise adaptation efforts are jointly staffed by the Department of Public Works and the Community Development Agency. A vulnerability assessment was completed in June 2017, and projects have been developed to respond to the challenges.

3. Addition of Firefighter Positions

Preview

The Board will hear a request from the Fire Department to add 4.0 full-time equivalent fixed-term firefighter positions to support the department’s enhanced fuel reduction efforts. The department created its first 14-person wildland fire crew in 2004 and added a second in 2018. Each works to improve defensible space around homes and reduce fire hazards over a nine-month period each year that starts in June and ends in March. Recent agreements with other agencies have significantly expanded the area for such efforts, and the proposed additional personnel would enable the department to provide more consistent and experienced leadership to the existing crews. The addition would be consistent with recommendations in the the "Lessons Learned: 2017 North Bay Fire Siege" report.

Review

The Board approved the personnel additions.

5. Parking Restrictions on County Roads

Preview

Not before 10:30 a.m., the Board will conduct a hearing for an ordinance amending Marin County Code (Sections 15.36.080 and 15.36.085) related to parking restrictions on specific County-maintained roads, adding a definition of an automobile to assist the Marin County Sheriff's Office with enforcement and to provide consistent expectations for the public. The County has received complaints about the increasing number of oversized vehicles that park overnight on the roads of unincorporated Marin, plus trash being dumped and people loitering near the lanes of travel. One code update would include a definition of an automobile, restricting its length to 22 feet. The Sheriff's Office supports adoption of the ordinance.

Review

The Board conducted the hearing and did not adopt the ordinance amendment.

Need more info? See the staff report about the proposed amendments to parking restrictions.
