The Board will hear a request from the Department of Finance to consider adopting a resolution delegating to the Director of Finance (Tax Collector) discretion to discharge from accountability the collection of property tax penalties and cost resulting from the COVID-19 declared emergency. The Tax Collector has the limited authority to cancel property tax penalties and cost on a case-by-case basis. The Board has the authority to approve an application from the Tax Collector to discharge from accountability the collection of penalties and cost. If it does, the Tax Collector could establish a process for granting such discharges related to taxes that became delinquent during the first term of the shelter-in-place order.
The Board adopted the resolution.
