June 4 summit in Napa to cover regional issues, facilitate collaboration
In an effort to improve collaboration on regional issues, the Marin County Board of Supervisors will convene with the supervisors from Napa, Sonoma and Solano counties in a historic meeting on Tuesday, June 4, to discuss topics of common interest.
It will be the first time in 10 years that the Marin Board will have a joint meeting with another county board; the Marin and Sonoma boards met in Petaluma on Sept. 22, 2003 to discuss gaming, salt ponds and transportation projects. In 2004, several boards from North Bay counties met to create the Indian Gaming Consortium, but that meeting did not include supervisors from Marin.
The last time the Marin Board met with multiple boards was on April 23, 1924, when a special meeting was called with Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, Marin and Lake counties in Santa Rosa to address an agricultural health scare.
The North Bay Counties Joint Special Meeting will take place at 3 p.m. June 4 in Hatt Hall at the Napa River Inn, 500 Main Street in Napa. The Marin Board will meet at 10 a.m. the same day in its own chambers, then head to Napa for the joint meeting.
“I look forward to sharing ideas and successes with our neighboring counties,” said Judy Arnold, president of the Marin County Board of Supervisors.
Brad Wagenknecht, board chair of the Napa County Board of Supervisors, said the meeting is a part of an ongoing effort “to improve intergovernmental communication and collaboration. … We hope the public will join us in these conversations.”
On the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting is a presentation on MCE, Marin County’s energy aggregation program; a discussion of North Bay transportation issues; the Affordable Healthcare Act and how it will affect the counties’ County Medical Services Programs; and an overview of regional planning agencies.
The agenda and supporting materials are available on Napa County's website.
