Double Murder Defendants Enter Guilty Pleas

San Rafael, CA -- Morrison Lampley and Lila Alligood pled guilty to the first-degree murders of Audrey Carey and Steven Carter in the Marin County Superior Court this afternoon.

Morrison, by admitting the two murders and admitting two firearm allegations connected to the killings, will receive a state prison sentence of 100 years to life. Alligood, who did not discharge the firearms, will be sentenced to state prison for 50 years to life.

Sean Angold, the third defendant involved in these murders, had previously agreed to be a state's witness and testified under an immunity grant at the preliminary hearing. As part of that agreement, he pled to one count of second-degree murder and will receive a 15 years to life state prison sentence.

These pleas also require the defendants to waive all their appellate rights, and therefore, they will not be able to challenge these convictions by way of appeal.

Before these dispositions were reached there were extensive discussions with the families of the two murder victims. Both families agreed to our going forward. One of the primary considerations for those connected to this case is this plea agreement puts finality in the tragic losses that were endured. A specter of what could be an endless appeals process is abated and the families will be relieved from having to revisit these events. At the upcoming formal sentencing hearing both families will be given the opportunity to address the court and impress upon the sentencing judge the full impact of their losses.

Sentencing will be before Judge Kelly Simmons at 9 a.m. April 18.
