Probation officers team with other agencies to drop in on sex offenders
San Rafael, CA – As Halloween night approached, the Marin County Probation Department and partner agencies contacted 39 registered and non-registrant sex offenders and DUI offenders on Tuesday, October 30, to check on compliance with the terms of their probation. One offender was found in violation of parole and taken into custody.
Not all offenders have search-and-seizure conditions as part of their parole, but all were still contacted and found to be in compliance with their terms and conditions. After checking phones and other electronic devices, 30 of the 31 searches conducted were found to be in compliance. Four cell phones and a tablet were seized for further investigation.
“It is the department’s objective to keep the community safe, especially at a high-risk time for offenders such as Halloween season,” said Probation Chief Mike Daly.
The Probation Department will continue to focus resources on and provide the highest level of supervision to the offenders with the highest likelihood of reoffending. The department’s main goal is to make every effort to assist in a person’s rehabilitation.
