County, Environmental Forum of Marin, and Drawdown: Marin host 2/27 event
San Rafael, CA – County of Marin staff is participating in a special forum February 27 that will focus on building materials and design that will reduce and sequester greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The Environmental Forum of Marin and the Drawdown: Marin initiative are including the Civic Center-based Marin County Sustainability Team in the session called “Building to Cool the Planet – Beyond Green Building,” starting at 7 p.m. at the Marin Health and Wellness Campus in San Rafael.
The event will address the current 20-year window for dramatic action to reverse climate change and focus on construction of buildings that minimize GHG emissions. Attendees will be enlightened about new materials, designs and policies that sequester carbon.
Bruce King, Alice Zanmiller, and David Arkin are lined up as guest speakers. King is founder of the Ecological Building Network and author of a book on sustainable and architectural techniques. Zanmiller, a County of Marin sustainability planner, is working on the Bay Area Low Carbon Concrete Project. Arkin is an architect who has taught and lectured on sustainable design for more than 25 years.

Spearheaded by the County of Marin, the initiative works to eliminate fossil fuel use and “drawdown” carbon emissions by designing and implementing a variety of solutions that residents may act upon right away.
